  • The new Diploma - Yes or No?

Do you think this is the future qualification of choice for 14 - 19 year-olds?

The recent announcement that the 14-19 Diploma in Science is to be held back a year to 2012 has divided opinion. Some are disappointed by the delay, while others feel it's an assurance the new subjects are being made as good as possible.

What do posters make of this development?

How will the next wave of Diploma subjects due compare to the first, especially those which have traditionally been taught academically, such as Languages and Humanities?

    • Diploma Guidance Event: 26th March 2009 0 Replies

      Hello all...

We are looking for teachers who are currently (or will soon be) delivering the Diploma to come to an event on 26th March in London to take part in a creative panel session. The event will be an opportunity to feedback on a number of guidance tools and products the Qualifications and Curriculum Authority (QCA) are developing to support the delivery of the Diploma.

We want to hear teacher’s thoughts, opinions and ideas for how our guidance products should look, feel and be delivered and how together we can make them better.

If this is an event that interests you then please get in touch, I have attached a flyer with more details about this event.

      Many thanks,

      Paul

      Thanks for the link James.
The government site does indeed contain lots of info, but what do young people actually DOING the new diploma think?

Does the diploma give YOU the right mix of learning, or is there room for improvement?

It would also be really interesting to know why students DIDN'T choose to sign up for the diploma; what held you back, and how would you compare this new qualification with GCSEs or A levels?

We want to hear from you, so get posting!

The new diploma needs to be conveyed as an academic award with minimal work related learning attached. The public must not make the assumption that this is a vocational course and a student will have a full on practical experience. The overall idea is that the students at the end of the 2 years will be able to make an informed choice of career or academic path.

The diploma is a path in the right direction but still needs to be tuned towards the Tomlinson dream.
